Impressive Comeback Seals Victory at Cheltenham for Slade Steel

A superb victory was clinched by Slade Steel in the Sky Bet Supreme Novices' Hurdle to kick off proceedings at the 2024 Cheltenham Festival.

Under the guidance of Henry de Bromhead and jockey Rachael Blackmore, the 7-2 shot positioned himself strategically within the pack, shadowing the frontrunners before making his move on the final turn.

Gradually overtaking his rivals, Slade Steel surged ahead, displaying a burst of speed up the challenging hill to secure victory by a length and a half over Mystical Power.

De Bromhead commended the performance, acknowledging Blackmore's skilled navigation and the strategic advice from the Robcour team to avoid Ballyburn, a key rival.

Reflecting on the win, De Bromhead expressed gratitude for the team's support and the thrill of competing at the prestigious Cheltenham venue.

Blackmore, who made history as the Festival's top rider in 2021, praised Slade Steel's resilience and potential for future success. She highlighted his strong finish and adaptability over the two-mile distance.

Trainer Willie Mullins, overseeing Mystical Power's valiant effort, acknowledged the winner's staying power and hinted at greater success on firmer ground in the future.

Despite disappointment with the unplaced Tullyhill, Mullins found solace in Asian Master's commendable performance and Supersundae's solid effort.

The day's events underscored the unpredictability and excitement of horse racing, leaving room for optimism and future triumphs for all involved in the sport.
