Trainer Nicky Henderson refrained from speculating on the outcome after his impressive mare Luccia secured third place in the Unibet Champion Hurdle, as stable favourite Constitution Hill was notably absent. Constitution Hill, known as the top contender from Seven Barrows stables, was unable to defend his title due to disappointing performances leading up to the event.
State Man, the alternative choice, was victorious on the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival, but Luccia's close finish in third highlighted Constitution Hill's absence. Henderson expressed satisfaction with State Man's victory but acknowledged the missed opportunity for an anticipated showdown between Constitution Hill and State Man.
While the possibility of Constitution Hill competing later in the season remains uncertain, Henderson provided a positive update on the horse's condition. Despite setbacks with other horses in his string, including Jeriko Du Reponet and Iberico Lord, Henderson remains cautious in his approach, considering the challenging conditions at the Festival.
Owner Michael Buckley expressed confidence in Constitution Hill's potential success if he had participated, emphasising the importance of belief in one's horse. Luccia's unexpected performance was praised by Henderson, attributing the decision to run her to owner Paul. Henderson hinted at Luccia's future plans, possibly heading towards retirement.
