Goliath’s globe-trotting adventure continues with the 62nd Preis von Europa as his next destination. Following this, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner will set his sights on the Far East for the Japan Cup.
Francis-Henri Graffard’s Ascot victor had been listed at 6-1 for a return to Berkshire for the Champion Stakes on Qipco British Champions Day. He was also considered for this weekend’s Prix Foy, but his name was absent from Wednesday’s forfeits for Sunday’s race at ParisLongchamp.
Instead, Goliath's new majority owner, John Stewart, has devised an ambitious global campaign. The gelding’s first stop will be Cologne, Germany, on September 22.
"I’ll be attending the race in Germany, and I’m thrilled about the opportunity to see him in action," said Stewart. "We’re aiming for Goliath to become an international star for my Resolute Racing operation. We’re even planning a Goliath merchandise range to coincide with his Japan Cup bid."
After the Prix von Europa, the focus will shift to the Japan Cup on November 24, where Goliath will aim to become the first French-trained winner since Le Glorieux for Robert Collet in 1987.
Stewart, who acquired a significant share of Goliath from Philip Baron von Ullmann following his dominant King George performance, shared his enthusiasm for the horse. "I was impressed by his victory over top competitors like Auguste Rodin and others, which led me to secure the majority interest. My goal is to campaign him internationally and ensure he competes in the best races around the world."
He continued, "I believe there’s a need for more international racing efforts, and I’m excited about taking Goliath to Japan, Hong Kong, Dubai, and potentially even Australia and the US in the future."
