Connections of Goliath, the King George VI winner, have opted to rest the four-year-old ahead of an expected busy schedule in 2025 following his commendable sixth-place finish in the Japan Cup.
Trainer Francis-Henri Graffard and owners Resolute Bloodstock and Philip Baron Von Ullmann have decided to focus on a busy 2025 campaign, aiming to showcase the gelding on the global stage. The horse will return to France for a well-deserved break.
John Stewart, head of Resolute Bloodstock, confirmed the decision on social media, stating:
“Goliath has exited the recent race in excellent condition. After thorough discussions with @GraffardRacing and the @resracingky team, we have concluded that Goliath merits a period of rest. We will prepare for a global campaign to showcase him globally in 2025.”
Stewart also expressed hope that France Galop will lift the ban on geldings competing in the prestigious Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, which remains a long-term target for the horse.
“Horse racing enthusiasts deserve to witness the finest equine talent on the grandest platforms. If fillies can compete without assurances regarding fertility, excluding exceptional geldings seems inconsistent.”
Regardless of changes to Arc eligibility, Goliath’s team is committed to entering him in premier turf races worldwide in the coming year, ensuring the talented gelding remains a force on the international racing scene.
