Jeremy Scott’s promising mare Golden Ace is set to make her seasonal return at either Wetherby or Ascot following an exceptional novice hurdling campaign. After finishing second to Dysart Enos in the Grade Two mares’ bumper at Aintree during the 2022-23 season, Golden Ace transitioned seamlessly into hurdling in 2024. She impressed with back-to-back wins at Taunton before stepping up to Grade Two company and claiming the Ryanair Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham Festival, defeating Gordon Elliott’s Brighterdaysahead by nearly two lengths.
Capping her season, Golden Ace dominated the Listed mares’ novice at Cheltenham, winning by eight and a half lengths despite carrying extra weight. Although Scott initially targeted a Kempton return this autumn, a minor muscle injury has shifted focus to Wetherby or Ascot. "She’s had a small setback, and while Kempton is off the table, there’s a mares’ race at Wetherby or a two-mile-three race at Ascot," Scott explained.
Looking ahead, Golden Ace’s spring target is likely the Mares’ Hurdle at Cheltenham, though Scott anticipates she will soon have to face geldings. "Once you’re out of novice company, there are limited races for mares," he said.
Meanwhile, Scott’s veteran chaser Dashel Drasher, now 11, is set for a final season over fences. After skipping Chepstow due to quick ground, the beloved gelding will be aimed at upcoming chases, with Scott prioritising his well-being. "He’s doing great and still has his zest, but we’ll make the right call when it’s time."
