Frankie Detori moves to the United States

Renowned Italian jockey Frankie Dettori is set to launch his career in the United States with a packed schedule, featuring eight rides at the inaugural meeting of the new season at Santa Anita on Boxing Day. Dettori, who recently celebrated his 53rd birthday, had considered retirement earlier this year but changed his mind following the success of his farewell tour.

At Santa Anita, Dettori is slated to participate in all three of the £250,000 Grade 1 races, representing seven different trainers throughout the extensive 11-race card, which starts at 11 am local time. One of his notable rides includes partnering with Khinjani, formerly trained by Ed Walker, in the 1m2f Grade 1 American Oaks at 9.00 pm. Khinjani, a daughter of Sir Percy, joined Mark Glatt's stable after being sold at the Tattersalls December Sale.

The other Grade 1 races, both on dirt, begin with the 7f Malibu Stakes at 10.30 am for three-year-olds, where Dettori will ride Graded winner Raise Cain, trained by Ben Colebrook. He will also team up with Big Pond, prepared by Tim Yatkeen, in the La Brea Stakes at 11.30 am.

Dettori departed from Heathrow last Friday, marking the start of this new chapter in California. In October, he concluded his British career with a notable double victory on Champions Day at Ascot. Afterward, Dettori competed in Italy and succeeded at the Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita, guiding Inspiral to win in the Filly & Mare Turf.

His post-season activities included a stint on the Australian show "I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here," from which he was the first contestant to depart, followed by a family vacation in France. Recently, Dettori attended the funeral of trainer Neville Callaghan in Newmarket.

Dettori expressed excitement about this new phase in his career, noting his readiness in terms of weight and enthusiasm for his upcoming rides at Santa Anita, where he anticipates a lively atmosphere.
