Following his unsuccessful effort in the Ballysax Stakes, Paddy Twomey's Deepone will revert to a mile and aim for the Irish 2,000 Guineas.
As a two-year-old, the Study Of Man colt won three races: he won his maiden, a Killarney race, and the Beresford Stakes. He also placed second in the Churchill Stakes and fourth in the KPMG Champions Juvenile Stakes.
He started the season in early April at Leopardstown, where he made his Group Three debut at a mile and two furlongs in the Ballysax Stakes.
He ran hard under Billy Lee, but in the end, he was unable to deliver a blow; he finished fourth out of five as the field was extremely stretched out.
Twomey now plans to go back to the mile trip, where he finished first in the previous term, and plans to compete in the Irish Guineas in late May.
He said: “I think Deepone will go back to a mile and have a go at the Irish 2,000 Guineas. “The last day there in Leopardstown he just raced too freely, the penalty and the ground started to take its toll up the straight. I think he’s a strong traveller and dropping back in trip should suit him, that should point us in the right direction for the rest of the season. I think he’s pretty versatile, I don’t think he wants it as heavy as the other day but I don’t think he’s ground-dependent.”
