Fallen Angel Wraps Up Season

Fallen Angel has concluded her racing for the season but is slated to continue training with an eye toward next year. The grey filly, trained by Karl Burke, enjoyed a successful two-year-old campaign, highlighted by a victory in the Group One Moyglare Stud Stakes at the end of her juvenile season.

After being a favourite in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket in May, where she finished eighth, she quickly redeemed herself by winning the Irish version of the race by a comfortable margin. Following a brief hiatus during which she was acquired by Wathnan Racing, she made a strong return to the track, finishing second to Porta Fortuna in the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown in September.

Fallen Angel then stepped up in distance for the Prix de l’Opera at ParisLongchamp earlier this month, where she placed fourth, beaten by just a length and three-quarters over 10 furlongs. This marks her final race of the current campaign, but she is expected to return to training after a winter break, aiming for success in 2025.

“Fallen Angel is in excellent condition,” said Richard Brown, racing advisor for Wathnan. “We’ve decided to wrap up her season and keep her in training for next year. We were pleased with her performance in the Opera, and we’ll take some time to evaluate the best distance for her going forward. A mile and a quarter are definitely a possibility. We have plenty of time during the winter to consider our options, but she is in great shape and has been competitive.”
