Fact To File edged out Spillane’s Tower in a dramatic finish to the John Durkan Memorial Punchestown Chase, as last season's standout novices outshone seasoned stars Galopin Des Champs and Fastorslow.
Galopin Des Champs and Fastorslow set the pace for much of the race, appearing to control proceedings. But as the field turned for home, Fact To File, expertly ridden by Mark Walsh, cruised into contention.
Fact To File jumped the final fence with precision and surged past Galopin Des Champs to take the lead. However, stablemate Spillane’s Tower, carrying the second colours of owner JP McManus and ridden by Jack Kennedy, mounted a strong late challenge on the run-in. Despite the pressure, Fact To File held on to win by half a length at odds of 7-2, marking Willie Mullins’ 10th victory in the prestigious race.
Galopin Des Champs finished two and a quarter lengths back in third, while Fastorslow claimed fourth.
The victory adds another accolade to Fact To File’s impressive career, following his triumph in last season’s Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase.
