Elizabeth Jane Eyes Group One Glory After Leopardstown Win

Elizabeth Jane, fourth in the Irish Oaks, capitalised on a class drop to secure victory in the Thomas’s Of Foxrock “Jim And Kathleen Murphy” Memorial Trigo Stakes at Leopardstown. Trained by Dermot Weld for Moyglare Stud Farm, the Dubawi filly made her debut win at this track a year ago and showcased her ability with a strong fourth-place finish in the Irish Oaks behind You Got To Me in July.

Despite a disappointing run in the Blandford Stakes at the Curragh last month, where she beat only one rival, Elizabeth Jane returned to form in this 10-furlong Listed race. Ridden by Chris Hayes, she finished powerfully, winning by a length and three-quarters over Layfayette, with Stromberg close behind in third.

“She deserved that win, she’s a very talented filly,” Weld said. “She’s been working well, and I was confident she’d perform today. Things didn’t go her way in Blandford, but she’s bounced back beautifully.”

Looking ahead, Weld confirmed plans for Elizabeth Jane’s 2025 campaign, stating, “She’ll definitely return next year, and I believe a mile and a half is her ideal distance. We’re aiming for Group One success over that trip.”

Meanwhile, Jessica Harrington’s Norwalk Havoc dominated the Bahrain Turf Club Knockaire Stakes, securing a three-and-a-half-length victory under Shane Foley. The 2-1 favourite thrived on heavy ground and looks set for an exciting season ahead, staying in training for 2025.
