Egan Believes in Fuerte’s Potential

David Egan has unwavering confidence in Bucanero Fuerte's ability to perform in the Qipco British Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot this Saturday. The promising colt, trained by Adrian Murray, marked a significant milestone for Kia Joorabchian's Amo Racing by securing victory in last year's Phoenix Stakes, becoming the first Group One winner for the operation.

Initially targeted for the 2000 Guineas at the start of the season, Bucanero Fuerte redirected his focus to sprinting after a successful return at Naas. However, a setback prior to Royal Ascot kept him from competing throughout much of the summer. Although he faced defeats at Haydock and the Curragh last month, Egan believes the conditions on Champions Day will favour his horse, who he feels has been underestimated in the betting.

“Returning to six furlongs will definitely suit him better; the five furlongs at the Curragh was a bit on the sharp side,” Egan stated. He expects a strong performance from Bucanero Fuerte, emphasising the colt's inherent class.

In addition to Bucanero Fuerte, Egan will ride Mr Professor in the Balmoral Handicap. The horse, who gave Egan an early triumph this season with a win at the Lincoln, is primed for success in the highly competitive £200,000 race. Egan expressed confidence in Mr Professor’s chances, acknowledging the challenges but maintaining a strong belief in the horse's potential.
