Today, Easy Game secured victory in Listowel's John J. Galvin Chase for the third consecutive year, guided by champion jockey Paul Townend, who wisely opted for the seasoned winner over stablemate and eventual runner-up Saint Sam.
Trained by Willie Mullins, both Easy Game and Saint Sam carried the stable's hopes into the race. Despite Saint Sam holding a superior rating of 160 compared to Easy Game's 155, the latter had previously triumphed in the same race over the past two years.
Saint Sam, known for his eager pace, led the field, with Easy Game keeping close behind. As the race progressed, the other contenders gradually faded away, leaving Easy Game to take charge at the second-last fence and secure victory by a comfortable five-length margin over Saint Sam.
This win marked Easy Game's 19th career victory, with 11 of those wins coming under the guidance of Townend. Reflecting on the veteran's performance, Townend remarked, "Despite his advancing years, Easy Game still displays a keen enthusiasm for racing. He's been managed well, maintaining his freshness and eagerness."
Comparing Easy Game to Saint Sam, Townend noted, "While Saint Sam held a higher rating, it was challenging to overlook Easy Game's consistency, particularly on this course. He's been performing admirably against his handicap for some time."
Townend also recalled a memorable encounter with Easy Game at Leopardstown in 2020, highlighting the horse's impressive form and the lasting impression it left on him, underscoring Easy Game's enduring quality.
