Aidan O'Brien's prospects for the Classic have increased with the emergence of Agenda as a potential contender. The three-year-old colt secured a convincing victory at Dundalk on Tuesday evening, marking his first win. After finishing third in his only race as a juvenile at the Curragh in October, Agenda was the 11-10 favourite to perform better upon his return.
Despite a slow start, Agenda demonstrated his latent talent in the latter stages of the 10-furlong race, triumphing impressively by nearly five lengths over Huxley. Huxley had previously finished not far behind O'Brien's star colt City Of Troy in a Curragh maiden last season. This victory has prompted consideration for Agenda's participation in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby on 30th June. Additionally, there is speculation of him being sent to Chester's Boodles May Festival for a potential Derby trial.
Stable representative Chris Armstrong expressed satisfaction with Agenda's performance and highlighted his potential. Armstrong acknowledged that the colt is still immature and inexperienced but believes there is room for improvement, indicating that Agenda has the qualities to become an exceptional horse.
Jockey Wayne Lordan guided Agenda to victory, marking his first win since his return to racing earlier this month. Lordan had been sidelined since July of the previous year due to multiple injuries suffered when unseated from the fatally injured San Antonio during the Irish Derby.
Armstrong commended Lordan's ride and expressed gratitude to the paramedics, as well as the medical professionals and physiotherapists involved in Lordan's recovery. Lordan's return to the saddle has been a long and challenging journey, and Armstrong hopes for a successful season ahead for the jockey.
