Detain's Connections Hopeful for Dry Conditions Ahead

Detain's team is eager for dry weather as the colt prepares for the William Hill Futurity Trophy at Doncaster next week. Trained by John and Thady Gosden, the promising half-brother to St Leger runner-up Arrest has started his career impressively, debuting with a win at Kempton in August and recently triumphing again there by seven lengths under penalty.

While soft ground doesn’t overly concern his connections, heavy conditions could lead them to reconsider his participation. Barry Mahon, representing owners Juddmonte, stated, "Detain is a potential runner at Doncaster, provided he remains fit and healthy. However, the ground will play a significant role in our decision. John and Thady have indicated that they would prefer not to race him on heavy ground at this early stage in his development."

He added, "He has performed well on all-weather surfaces, so we know he prefers a firm track, but as a sibling to Arrest, a little cut in the ground shouldn’t present an issue. Nevertheless, we’d prefer to avoid heavy conditions for him at this point in his career."
