David Menuisier has yet to decide on Caius Chorister's assignment at the upcoming Qatar Goodwood Festival, as he aims to avoid a rematch with Gold Cup champion Kyprios. The five-year-old, owned by Clive Washbourn, has seen a rise in her performance levels since her handicap win at the 'Glorious' meeting in 2022. Her recent victories in top-level races have positioned her as a strong contender in staying distances.
Following her narrow defeats in the Sagaro Stakes and Henry II Stakes, Caius Chorister had a shot at the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot, where she struggled with the distance. Despite this, Menuisier believes she can take on the majority of the staying division, except for Kyprios, who he sees as the best stayer in Europe.
Menuisier is considering the Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes as an alternative if Kyprios is in the lineup for the Goodwood Cup. He praises Caius Chorister's toughness and speed on quick ground, making her a standout in the staying filly category in Europe.
Devil’s Point, another talented horse under Menuisier's care and owned by Washbourn, is likely to focus on a summer campaign on the continent. After winning the German 2000 Guineas, Devil’s Point will aim for the Prix Jean Prat at Deauville before a possible return for the Prix Maurice de Gheest on the Normandy coast. Menuisier believes this program will suit Devil’s Point for the summer season.
