Clive Cox's Ghostwriter is looking ahead to the Juddmonte International after an impressive third-place finish in the Eclipse on Saturday. The Invincible Spirit colt had a successful juvenile campaign, culminating in a Group Two victory at Newmarket. He then started his three-year-old season with a fourth-place finish in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket before heading to Chantilly for the Prix du Jockey Club.
Despite heavy ground, Ghostwriter showed his stamina with another fourth-place finish, setting him up for a bid at the Eclipse at Sandown. In a field of six, Derby hero City Of Troy was the frontrunner, but Ghostwriter put in a solid effort to finish third under jockey Richard Kingscote.
Trainer Clive Cox was encouraged by the performance and is now aiming for the Juddmonte at York in hopes of encountering quicker ground. He believes Ghostwriter will excel on a dry track and was pleased with his horse's honest and solid effort at Sandown.
On the same day, another horse from the yard, James's Delight, brought home prize money by winning the Listed Prix Kistena at Deauville. Owned by Paul and Clare Rooney, the three-year-old had previously won a sprint handicap at York in June and continued his success with a victory in France on soft ground.
Cox was pleased with James's Delight's performance and noted the progress he has made this season. He will take a few days to decide on the next steps for the horse, considering the numerous options now available in Pattern company after his confident win in France. Cox is excited to see the progress James's Delight is making and looks forward to what the future holds for the talented colt.
