Constitution Hill Prepares for Comeback in Fighting Fifth Hurdle

Nicky Henderson's star hurdler, Constitution Hill, is gearing up for a much-anticipated return in the BetMGM Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle on November 30. Among 18 early entries for the prestigious race, the reigning Champion Hurdle winner is set to make his first appearance since a dominant victory in the Christmas Hurdle last December.

Constitution Hill's journey back to the track hasn’t been without challenges. After extending his unbeaten streak to eight wins, the exceptional hurdler faced setbacks, including a suspected case of colic in April. However, his trainer remains optimistic about a strong comeback in the northeast later this month.

Henderson has also included Grade 1 winner Sir Gino in the entries, although the stablemate is set to transition to fences this season. Willie Mullins' yard, known for its depth in two-mile hurdlers, has entered Mystical Power as its sole representative for the Fighting Fifth, while prominent names like Lossiemouth, State Man, and Ballyburn await other challenges.

Gordon Elliott’s Brighterdaysahead, a Cheltenham Festival runner-up who claimed Grade 1 success at Aintree, is also in the mix. She recently began her campaign with a win at Down Royal. Joseph O'Brien's Galway Hurdle winner Nurburgring and Cheltenham victor Golden Ace add further intrigue to the line-up of potential runners.

Dan Skelton has surprised many by including novice hurdler Valgrand alongside Coral Cup winner Langer Dan and recent Wetherby victor Take No Chances, forming a strong trio for the race. Gary and Josh Moore’s Triumph Hurdle third, Salver, also features among the entries, alongside notable names such as Tellherthename, who missed out on the Greatwood Hurdle confirmation stage earlier this week.

Meanwhile, entries for the Boylesports Becher Handicap Chase, scheduled for December 7, have also closed. King Turgeon, fresh off a Grand Sefton victory last Saturday, leads the contenders for the Aintree event.

The stage is set for thrilling action as Constitution Hill aims to reaffirm his dominance, joined by a stellar field in what promises to be an exciting showdown.
