Come On The Lads won the QuinnBet Claiming Race

Come On The Lads provided Ger O'Leary with a swift return on investment today, winning Roscommon’s opening QuinnBet Claiming Race on his second start for the new owner/trainer, before being re-claimed.

O'Leary initially claimed the four-year-old for €10,000 after his win at Tipperary in May. After finishing third at Ballinrobe, he was heavily backed into 5/6 favouritism under Shane Foley and comfortably defeated Edge Of Darkness, increasing his recent earnings to €7,450.

O'Leary said, “He won nicely, and I’m delighted. He’s very straightforward, and once Timourid (the leader) faded, it was plain sailing.”

He added, “We’ll see what happens next before making any plans about his future.”

The next development saw trainer Gavin Cromwell claim Come On The Lads for €13,000, securing a profit for O'Leary. Meanwhile, runner-up Edge Of Darkness was purchased for €10,000 by Ciara Daffy for trainer Danny Howard, and fourth-placed Timourid was bought for €9,000 by Liam Mulryan for trainer Denis Hogan.
