City of Troy is one of 20 horses remaining in the Betfred Derby on Saturday following Tabletalk's addition for the Classic during Monday's confirmation round.
The open format of this year's race is expected to draw a large field to Epsom, but despite his dismal performance in the 2000 Guineas, last season's champion juvenile, City of Troy, remains the favourite.
He is one of six runners that Aidan O'Brien has left in, including the undefeated Los Angeles, the winner of Group One at two, and the victor of the crucial Derby trial at Leopardstown.
The Ballydoyle handler may also field Diego Velazquez, Euphoric, Illinois, and Portland, though the first-named colt is the ante-post favourite for Sunday's Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly.
Another Irish-trained contender in the mix after winning the Ballysax Stakes is Adrian Murray's Dallas Star.
For £75,000, Tabletalk—a winner at Chelmsford the previous time out for Tom Clover—was supplemented.
Due to connections that saw Callum Shepherd's jockey replaced by Robert Havlin last week, Ambiente Friendly—who won at Lingfield—has a lot of merit, while Dancing Gemini, owned by Roger Teal and placed second in the French Guineas, is another horse with exceptional form.
Charlie Appleby, who previously appeared to have three formidable competitors, is dependent on Ancient Wisdom, while Ralph Beckett is expected to run for Macduff.
Additionally retained are Deira Mile, God's Window, Kamboo, Mr. Hampstead, Padesha, Sayedaty Sadaty, and Voyage.
Bellum Justum, the winner of the Blue Riband Trial, has connections that suggest this is the year to take a chance.
The colt trained by Andrew Balding is a live underdog, with the winner of the Guineas, Notable Speech, sticking to a mile, the placed horses from Newmarket running in the Irish equivalent, and the stunning winner of the Dante, Economics, skipping Epsom.
“All is good, we’re happy with him and it looks like a very open year. It’s quite hard to assess the form lines this year,” said Alistair Donald of owners King Power Racing. “At least we know he can go around the track and I think we’ll stay the trip. I’ve said before I don’t know if he’s quite good enough to win it, but I do think he’ll run a good race. This is the year to take a chance with a horse like him, as there are question marks over so many of the runners, it’s a very interesting Derby.”
