Cheveley Park Stud has acquired a share in Vandeek, who has retired from racing and will stand at Cheveley Park in 2025 in partnership with KHK Racing.
Vandeek, unbeaten at two with wins in the Prix Morny and Middle Park Stakes, has faced injury issues this year. He made only two starts, finishing third in both the Sandy Lane at Haydock and the July Cup before a further setback ruled him out of the Prix Maurice de Gheest. A soft tissue injury was diagnosed, and with time running out for this season, the decision has been made to retire him to stud.
Simon Crisford, who trained Vandeek with his son Ed, said, “Vandeek was an outstanding two-year-old for Sheikh Khalid, with an exceptional turn of foot and a wonderful temperament. His Middle Park victory was sensational, and, unfortunately, he didn’t have the chance to show his full potential this year.”
Jockey James Doyle added, “Riding Vandeek in the Juddmonte Middle Park was a thrill. He was an exceptional racehorse with blistering speed.”
Chris Richardson, managing director of Cheveley Park Stud, stated, “Patricia Thompson is thrilled to secure Vandeek, alongside Sheikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to stand at Cheveley Park Stud. This exciting son of Havana Grey will be available to British and international breeders, further enhancing Cheveley Park Stud’s tradition of standing world-class stallions.”
