Cheltenham Festival Decision Pending for Gaelic Warrior

Patrick Mullins has commented on the adaptability of Gaelic Warrior. He will need to determine his target at the Cheltenham Festival closer to the event.

The Cheltenham Festival is an apex event in jump racing. It spans four days and features key races like the Champion Hurdle and Gold Cup. It sees significant attendance and offers a lot of prize money. This highlights its prestige in the racing calendar. The event also marks notable achievements, such as wins by female jockeys. Held annually in March at the Cheltenham Racecourse in Gloucestershire

Gaelic Warrior has shown a broad range of skills. He's won hurdle races over distances from two to three miles. His Grade One victory at Limerick during Christmas made him a prominent novice chaser. He's in Willie Mullins' Closutton yard. But, a notable issue has been his tendency to jump to the right. This is particularly evident at left-handed tracks like Cheltenham. He has faced two defeats there.

The horse is currently entered in three Cheltenham Festival races. They are the Arkle (two miles), the Turners Novices’ Chase (two and a half miles), and the Brown Advisory (three miles).

Patrick Mullins rode Gaelic Warrior at Limerick. He shared his insights with Sky Sports Racing. He acknowledged the horse's flexibility. It is capable of competing over a range of distances. Mullins noted Gaelic Warrior's rightward jumping. But, he is still determining how this might affect his performance in different races.

Mullins mentioned the possibility of Gaelic Warrior participating in the Irish Arkle. This might provide further insight into his suitability for Cheltenham races. Yet, he confirmed that the final decision, made late by Willie Mullins, is still undecided. This approach allows for a tailored decision based on the horse's condition. It also considers the race conditions closer to the event. Gaelic Warrior's versatility means several options remain open. We will not rush a definitive choice.
