There was no fairy-tale finale for Charyn in Japan, but connections remain optimistic as he transitions to a new chapter as a stallion.
Trained by Roger Varian, the four-year-old enjoyed a remarkable season in Europe, claiming three Group One victories in the Queen Anne Stakes, Prix Jacques le Marois, and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. With seven career wins and nearly £3 million in prize money, Charyn has established himself as one of the season's standout performers.
For his swan song, a bold decision was made to contest the Grade One Mile Championship at Kyoto. Despite a slow start under Ryan Moore, Charyn displayed his trademark determination, staying on to finish a respectable fifth in a competitive 17-runner field won by Soul Rush.
Owner Nurlan Bizakov took to social media to reflect on the occasion, sharing his pride in Charyn’s accomplishments:
"Beyond proud of Charyn today and always, even though he did not end his brilliant career on a winning note."
"Luck was not on our side, but he showed once again why he is a true champion. Excited for his next chapter as a stallion, passing on his talent and personality to the next generation."
"Today was not a loss – it was a legacy in the making."
As Charyn transitions to stud duties, his connections look forward to seeing him pass on the qualities that made him a champion on the track.
