Charyn and Notable Speech are set for an intriguing generational showdown in Sunday’s Prix du Moulin at ParisLongchamp.
The four-year-old Charyn, trained by Roger Varian, comes into the race with a strong record, having secured victories in the Queen Anne Stakes and the Jacques Le Marois in his last two outings. He will face the three-year-old Notable Speech, trained by Charlie Appleby, for the first time in France.
Notable Speech, the 2000 Guineas winner, bounced back from a lacklustre performance at Royal Ascot to claim victory in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood at the end of July. On that occasion, he finished ahead of Henry Longfellow, who was the favourite but could only manage fourth after being challenged for the lead by the outsider Sonny Liston.
Charyn’s owner, Nurlan Bizakov, also has the Christopher Head-trained Ramadan in the race. Godolphin is represented by both Notable Speech and Tribalist from Andre Fabre’s stable. Fabre himself will also saddle Supercooled, adding further depth to the field.
The lineup is rounded out by Caramelito, Kelina, and Big Rock, with the final list of contenders to be confirmed after Thursday’s supplementary entry stage.
