Breeders’ Cup is the next port of call for O’Brien`s colt

Aidan O’Brien has set his sights on the Breeders’ Cup Classic as the ultimate goal for City Of Troy, his Coral-Eclipse-bound Derby winner. Despite a disappointing start to his three-year-old campaign as the favourite for the 2000 Guineas, City Of Troy proved his critics wrong with an impressive victory at Epsom.

Being a son of Justify, there has always been belief from connections that City Of Troy could excel on dirt as well as turf, making him a strong contender for Breeders’ Cup success. Although initially considering a run on dirt in the Travers Stakes, plans were changed to focus on other races. O’Brien still has his sights set on a Classic bid in the autumn.

Reflecting on City Of Troy’s Derby win, O’Brien praised the horse’s adaptability and determination, particularly noting jockey Ryan Moore’s skilled ride. With City Of Troy set to run in the Eclipse at Sandown, stablemate Los Angeles will aim for Classic glory in the Irish Derby.

O’Brien remains confident in both horses’ abilities and is looking forward to their upcoming races. While City Of Troy continues to impress on the track, O’Brien is hopeful that both colts will achieve success in their respective targets.
