Boothill Set for Redemption in Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton

Trainer Harry Fry has confirmed Boothill will target the Grade Two Ladbrokes Desert Orchid Chase at Kempton on December 27. Originally planned for a rematch with Jonbon in the Tingle Creek at Sandown, Boothill’s travel plans were disrupted by Storm Darragh, forcing a change of course.

Fry noted that Sandown’s softer conditions might not have suited Boothill, making the redirection to Kempton potentially advantageous. With Jonbon now set to compete in the Clarence House at Ascot, the Desert Orchid Chase could offer a more open field.

Reflecting on Boothill’s history at Kempton, Fry expressed optimism about his return. “The travel setback was frustrating, but the softer ground at Sandown probably wouldn’t have been ideal,” Fry told Grosvenor Sport. “We’re now focused on Kempton, where Boothill has some unfinished business after falling in the race last year. We’re eager to make amends.”

Boothill previously excelled at Kempton, winning the Wayward Lad Novices' Chase on the same card two years ago. Fry highlighted his confidence in the horse’s ability to perform at the track, saying,

“We know he handles Kempton well, and we’re excited to bring him back for the Desert Orchid.”

The race promises a fresh opportunity for Boothill to showcase his potential and put past disappointments behind him.
