Belloccio might target Galway following a victory at Ascot

Belloccio is set to make his return to Galway as connections consider aiming for the Supreme Novices' Hurdle following his recent victory at Royal Ascot.

Previously trained by David Menuisier, Belloccio won a Listed race and four other contests on the level before being sold at the Arqana horses in training sale. Philip Hackett purchased him for Thurloe Thoroughbreds, and he was sent to Willie Mullins' stable in County Carlow.

Belloccio made his debut for his new connections in a two-mile maiden hurdle at Punchestown, where he won by nine lengths. After this success, he competed in the Copper Horse Handicap at Royal Ascot and secured another victory for Mullins.

Now, Belloccio is set to return to hurdling at the Galway Festival, where he will compete in a Listed contest. The goal is to potentially target the Supreme Novices' Hurdle, with trainer Willie Mullins believing he could be a serious contender for the race.

Jess Stafford of Thurloe Thoroughbreds mentioned that there were initial thoughts of races like the Ebor or even the Melbourne Cup, but they have decided to focus on Belloccio's jumping career for now. After Galway, they plan to give him a break before embarking on a jumps campaign.

Belloccio's success at Royal Ascot was a thrilling experience for his connections, who are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead for him in the world of jumps racing.
