Charlie Appleby is excited about the prospects of returning champion Rebel’s Romance and the formidable Notable Speech as they lead his select team into the Breeders’ Cup next week. Rebel’s Romance aims to reclaim his Breeders’ Cup Turf title, having enjoyed a commendable season with Group One victories in Dubai, Hong Kong, and Germany, alongside a respectable third in the King George at Ascot. Appleby describes the six-year-old as a potential “big player” for the upcoming race.
“Rebel’s Romance is an international star, and he’s been rock solid all year,” Appleby remarked. After a planned break, the decision was made to focus on a race in Germany that set him up perfectly for the Breeders' Cup. While the draw is a critical factor at tracks like Del Mar or Santa Anita, Appleby feels confident that the ten-furlong distance allows more flexibility during the race.
Notable Speech, competing in the Breeders’ Cup Mile, is eager to redeem himself after recent setbacks, despite a strong performance in the Sussex Stakes. “Travelling can be a challenge for him,” noted Appleby, but he remains hopeful that good fortune in draw and conditions will bring out the best in the Dubawi colt.
Appleby is also set to field two horses in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf and looks forward to a competitive race from entries Cinderella’s Dream and Beautiful Love. His team is rounded out by Star Of Mystery in the Turf Sprint.
