Anticipated Compatibility of Nashwa with Dubai Turf Length

The connections of Nashwa are confident that she will excel in the nine-furlong Dubai Turf race at Meydan on Saturday. Owner Imad Al Sagar has boldly decided to keep the talented five-year-old mare in training, knowing she will be a valuable asset at his Blue Diamond Stud once she retires.

Although Nashwa is expected to play a prominent role at the stud, Al Sagar couldn't resist the opportunity to compete in prestigious races like the upcoming Dubai Turf. Her impressive performances last season, including a five-length victory in the Falmouth Stakes and a close finish behind Mostahdaf and Paddington at York, justify the decision.

Teddy Grimthorpe, the owner's racing manager, emphasised the importance of meeting specific criteria when choosing to keep a horse in training. Nashwa satisfied those criteria, making her an ideal candidate for targeting significant races. The decision was not taken lightly due to her vital role at the stud, both in terms of pedigree and her exceptional qualities.

Although Nashwa had a slow start last season with defeats in France and Newcastle, she showed remarkable improvement during the summer. Her standout performances in the Falmouth Stakes and the Juddmonte, where she finished third behind Mostahdaf and Paddington, demonstrated her potential. Despite some unfortunate circumstances in the Irish Champion, where she finished third, Nashwa emerged physically and mentally strong after the winter break.

Grimthorpe acknowledged that competing at this level is challenging, with strong competition expected in the $5 million Dubai Turf. However, Nashwa's previous accomplishments, having won Group One races over a mile and a mile and a quarter, indicate that the nine-furlong distance should suit her perfectly. This further strengthens her prospects in the upcoming race.
