Anglers Crag Poised to Pursue Eider Championship

Ellison's rising star aiming for fourth consecutive victory.

Brian Ellison has high hopes for Anglers Crag, the current favourite, as he eyes another win in the upcoming Betting.Bet Eider Handicap Chase at Newcastle this Saturday. This race stands out in the calendar for its challenging four-mile course, promising a test of endurance on the demanding terrain.

Despite Anglers Crag's impressive record of three consecutive wins for Ellison following his switch from David Pipe, one lingering question remains: can he handle the gruelling marathon distance? While the nine-year-old boasts a victory over three and a quarter miles at Carlisle, his recent triumph at Musselburgh over a shorter distance suggests a mix of speed and stamina.

Ellison noted,

"He has shown steady improvement with each race, culminating in a standout performance at Musselburgh. The quality of his recent form is evident, with the runner-up securing a victory thereafter. If Anglers Crag can sustain the longer distance, his chances are substantial".

Among the contenders for the event, last year's second-place finisher, The Galloping Bear, leads the weights, while Cruz Control, Tommie Beau, Fenland Tiger, and Gold Clermont are also expected to challenge for the prestigious title.
