Andre Fabre has intense memories of King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes

It's surprising that Andre Fabre, a renowned trainer of middle-distance horses in Europe, has only won the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes once. His focus typically lies elsewhere, like the Grand Prix de Paris, which he has won 14 times. His sole King George victory came with Hurricane Run, a remarkable horse whose career ended with four defeats but included wins in the Irish Derby, Prix Niel, and Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

Reflecting on that day in July 2006, Fabre recalled how Hurricane Run appeared to be struggling against formidable rivals Electrocutionist and Heart’s Cry. However, he found a gap and surged forward, showcasing his impressive acceleration. Fabre noted that, despite a surprising loss at Saint-Cloud prior, Hurricane Run was a sound horse and handled the ground well.

Ascot marked Hurricane Run's last win, as he faced stiff competition in subsequent races. Fabre defended the three-year-olds' allowance in the Arc, acknowledging the growth and maturation of horses between ages three and four. He believes the timing of King George makes it challenging to prepare a horse in peak condition for both that race and the Arc.

Fabre holds Hurricane Run in high regard, comparing him to Peintre Celebre, and believes both belong among the best horses he has trained.
