Alyanaabi and Al Aasy will both race at Newbury

High-class three-year-old Alyanaabi and defending champion Al Aasy will both be representing the Shadwell colours in the upcoming BetVictor Stakes at Newbury on Saturday.

Trained by Owen Burrows, Alyanaabi was the runner-up in the Dewhurst last season and is now preparing to contest a Listed race over 10 furlongs after finishing fifth in both the 2000 Guineas and the St James’s Palace Stakes. The plan is to see if he can handle the longer distance and potentially open up more opportunities for the talented colt.

Shadwell's racing manager Angus Gold is optimistic about Alyanaabi's prospects and believes he could be a strong contender over the extended trip.

Meanwhile, Al Aasy, who triumphed in this race last year, is making his seasonal debut after narrowly missing out on a Group One victory at Epsom. The seven-year-old has had some setbacks, but is finally ready to start his campaign under the guidance of trainer William Haggas.

With Jim Crowley expected to ride Alyanaabi, Tom Marquand will be partnering with Al Aasy for the first time as they look to kick off the veteran's season on a positive note.
