Archie Watson’s colt made a striking debut win at Bath and, after a commendable fifth-place finish in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot, returned to winning form with an impressive victory in the Listed Dragon Stakes at Sandown. Although connections considered stepping up to six furlongs after Sandown, they’ve opted to keep Aesterius at the minimum distance where his speed can shine.
Richard Brown, the racing adviser for Qatar-based owners, expressed excitement about their horse's performance at Sandown, highlighting his speed and straightforward nature as positives for the five-furlong race. While acknowledging the competitive field, he remains hopeful for a clear path from jockey James Doyle.
Watson's stable also includes Vingegaard, who placed fifth at Royal Ascot after a near win at Newbury.
Ed Walker shared confidence in Celandine, who follows a win in the Empress Fillies’ Stakes and a close second in France. He believes dropping back to five furlongs will enhance her chances.
